History

More than 30 years of commitment to emergency medicine

We have been a reliable partner for customers in emergency medicine since 1990. What began as a subsidiary of the Stuttgart-based EHS Group has developed into an independent, dynamically growing group of companies - especially since the takeover by the current owners in 2004.

Effective August 1, 2026, hestomed+helbig Medizintechnik GmbH & Co. KG and Medland GmbH & Co. KG will become part of hestomed GmbH. Through this merger, we are pooling our expertise in emergency medicine, medical technology, and emergency medical services, creating more efficient processes, and offering our customers a single point of contact.

With our new corporate headquarters in Chemnitz, our development, regulatory affairs, and production departments will be even more closely integrated. Shorter decision-making processes will enable us to respond more quickly to our customers’ needs and implement innovations more efficiently.

At the same time, our new online store is launching with a simplified ordering process, faster order fulfillment, an integrated customer portal, and many other practical improvements. This allows our customers to benefit from a high-performance platform for products and solutions in emergency medicine—efficient, reliable, and forward-looking.

Michael Weiß, our long-standing shareholder and managing director, is stepping down to pursue new challenges. We would like to thank him sincerely for more than 20 years of dedicated collaboration and wish him all the best for the future.

From now on, teamRED will accompany all interested parties on our journey on behalf of our hestomed colleagues.

Retroactively effective from January 1, 2025, we acquired the shares of Leanovent IT GmbH and Witcotech UG and merged both companies with hestomed+helbig.
We are pleased to welcome a valuable addition to our team and to significantly expand our expertise in programming, including bluesafe, bluesoft, the redpack.check app, and merchandise management systems.

More than 100 people at hestomed work together with the shared goal of continuously improving emergency medicine. One major milestone project was the construction of a new warehouse and administration building in Widdern on a 14,000 m² site. The move took place in spring 2023.

Since July, Hissin Medizintechnik GmbH has been part of the hestomed Group. We are pleased to welcome our new colleagues in Oberursel and their valuable expertise in the field of project-related solutions.

We expanded our business with consumables for emergency medical services — and with the acquisition of hestomed+helbig Medizintechnik GmbH & Co. KG effective January 1, 2019, we grew significantly once again: the team doubled to around 90 employees.

With our new focus on emergency medicine, we withdrew from the hospital business. In North Rhine-Westphalia, we added the Dräger regional representation, as well as a new delivery service for medical gases.

The acquisition of Werkzeugbau Hartmann GmbH in Chemnitz was a milestone. It enabled us to secure new manufacturing expertise — independent, flexible and quality-driven.

Despite challenging market conditions, we continued to invest. The founding of hestomed nord GmbH and the acquisition of Med-Fix GmbH marked our expansion into emergency medicine. Based in Stockelsdorf, the team now supports customers across northern Germany.

As demand in the hospital sector declined and price competition increased, our focus shifted to a nationwide market — but the challenges remained.

After the founding generation stepped down, Steffen Helms, Michael Weiß and Dirk Rothschild took over the company. HESTO-MED became hestomed GmbH, with a clear focus on hospitals and emergency medical services.
The team grew, new partnerships were established, and in 2007 the company was certified as a manufacturer of gas systems. Its first own brand was born.

Founded in St. Egidien as HESTO-MED Vertrieb medizinisch-technischer Artikel GmbH, our name was derived from the initial letters of the founding companies Haeberle, Erbe and Stihler, together with the “O” representing eastern Germany.
We started out as a full-service provider of hospital equipment in eastern Germany and gained our first experience in the emergency medical services sector.
